How to Burn Belly Fat Fast
One of the biggest bodily complaints that many people have these days is the bulge of “belly fat” that sits on their midsections. Belly fat can be incredibly hard to get rid of for some people, but most of the time they are doing things that contribute to the formation of fat on the stomach without realizing it. If you’ve got some belly fat that you want to burn off quickly, the following steps will help get you moving in the right direction.
- Get rid of the belly fat culprits.
First and foremost, it’s vital to remove the culprits that are causing you to store fat on your belly. The big ones include excessive alcohol consumption, excessive fat consumption (especially in the form of fried foods and fast foods), excessive sugar consumption, and stress. These four things are the biggest causes of belly fat, and for the most part they are easy to remove from your lifestyle. Learning how to manage your stress might be a little more challenging that removing fried foods and alcohol from your diet, but there are plenty of programs and products that can help you do it. Explore options like daily meditation, hypnosis, and positive thinking techniques for effective stress management.
- Start eating less.
Once you’ve gotten rid of the worst belly fat culprits, it’s time to re-think your relationship with food and start reducing your portion sizes. Eating big, heavy meals leaves your stomach area feeling distended and bloated, and all of those excess calories just get stored on your body if you don’t burn them off. Start turning this around by eating much smaller meals and snacks. A good rule of thumb is to eat only until you feel satisfied, but NOT FULL. At first you may feel like you didn’t eat enough, but over time your stomach will shrink a bit and you’ll find it easy to feel satisfied with less food.
- Drink more water.
To burn a lot of fat, you need to drink a lot of water. There are two key points to keep in mind when it comes to water consumption. First, when you don’t drink enough water, your body goes into a state of mild dehydration and you end up retaining water in your midsection. When you drink plenty of water each day, your body doesn’t feel the need to hold onto it so you release any water you were retaining. The welcome result is a flatter looking stomach, even before you’ve lost a single pound of fat. Secondly, your organs need to be fully hydrated to function properly, including your liver, which is responsible for metabolizing fat. Drinking plenty of water each day helps your body burn more fat, period.
- Burn more calories.
Finally, burning belly fat requires you to burn more calories. While aerobic exercise won’t target belly fat specifically, it will help you burn more fat all over, which naturally contributes to a flatter stomach.

How to Create a Home Workout Plan
When you decide you’d like to work out at home, it’s important to set up a solid, detailed plan to follow each day so you don’t go off track. However, a home workout plan is NOT just a hastily scribbled entry on your calendar that says “exercise”!
For best results, you want a home workout plan that is detailed enough to include these three things:
1) Which Times?
Which time of day is best for you? Are you a morning person and have no trouble getting up early to work out, or is the snooze button on the alarm clock your best friend? It’s important to designate a specific time of day that you will work out, and stick to it each day. You can choose different times if your schedule fluctuates, but be sure to plan ahead from week to week so you can see clearly which times you will be working out.
2) Which Days?
A successful home workout plan should also designate which days of the week you will be working out. Most people choose 5 to 6 days a week and take 1 or 2 days off. But don’t leave this to your daily whims because it’s too easy to take more days off than you should. Think ahead and make a firm decision on which days you want to work out and which days you want to take off. And stick to it like glue, barring extreme emergencies or sickness.
3) Which Exercises?
Finally, a home workout plan needs to specify which exercises you will do on which days of the week, and at which times, if applicable. For example, don’t just have a vague idea that you’ll be doing cardio some days and resistance training other days. You need to plan ahead which days will be designated as cardio days, and which days will be designated as resistance training days. Or if you plan to do both each day, you should specify which areas of the body you’ll target on each day. A general example might be: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, and 30 minutes of resistance training for the lower body; and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 30 minutes of aerobic exercise and 30 minutes of resistance training for the upper body.
Creating such a detailed home workout plan may seem like overkill, but it’s important to make your daily workout schedule a “no brainer” so there is no confusion or uncertainty. If you know exactly what you’ll be doing and when, you are much more likely to actually do it.
